Throwing an event Outside? Keep It Simple, Make It Yours

Outdoor gatherings don’t need to be flashy to feel right. Whether it’s a birthday, baby/ wedding shower, a bachelorette party, or a casual get-together, what matters most is the way it feels unrushed, thoughtful, and true to the people who show up. You don’t need a fancy setup. You just need a space that’s ready to be used well.

Here’s how to make the most of a bare space like our pavilion and let it do what it does best.

1. Give It Shape Without Overdoing It

Open spaces can feel a little aimless without some structure. Use what you have benches, tables, rugs, crates to create simple zones. People naturally drift toward corners and edges, so let that guide how you set up.

Tip: Keep walkways clear and let the layout feel loose, not crowded. Give the space room to breathe.

2. Let the Light Do the Work

Time it right, and the light will carry half the mood for you. Late afternoon into early evening is best. As it gets darker, string lights, lanterns, and candles add just enough without turning it into a production.

Tip: Keep lighting soft and warm. It’s not about brightness, it’s about creating a mood.

3. Use What’s On Hand

Don’t go hunting for decorations. Blankets, old quilts, wood boxes, jars with flowers—they all bring in texture without trying too hard. Keep colors easy on the eyes. One or two tones is enough.

Tip: You don't need matchy matchy decor. Pull it together, just enough to feel intentional.

4. Keep It Honest and Personal

You don’t need much. A handwritten sign, a playlist, a centerpiece. The space works best when it feels like you, not like a rented setup.

Tip: Let guests bring something: food, a story, a memory.

5. Think About Comfort

People stay longer when they’re comfortable. Shade, decent chairs, fans if it’s hot, a few extra blankets if it’s not. Have bug spray on hand and keep the drinks easy to find.

Tip: If it gets dark, make sure there’s light. That’s all.

6. Take a Few Photos Before Things Start

Before it fills up, take a minute to capture the space. It’s worth remembering how a simple setup can turn into something that feels like it’s always been there.

Tip: Use the photos for next time. Or just to remind yourself how little it takes to make something really special.
